BorderRAC community outreach and prevention programs available

  • Safety on Wheels is a 1 to 2 hour presentation regarding safety on bicycles, skateboards, scooters and skates.  The target audience is usually 3rd thru 6th grade students depending on the school structure.  The presentation covers helmet safety and we do provide giveaways of a bicycle, skates, scooter, and skateboard.
  • Senior Fall Prevention is an assessment of fall risks in the elderly population and education for prevention. The program is based on the STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injuries) program of resources and tools available from the CDC.
  • Shattered Dreams is an intensive and interactive project to increase awareness and deter teenage drinking and driving.   It is a collaborative effort between multiple agencies and usually takes 4 to 6 months preparation.  We provide this full scale exercise for two schools each year when possible.
  • Stop the Bleed (B-Con) is a 2 hour presentation (1 hour lecture followed by hands on practice) for the general public regarding the National Initiative to control life threatening bleeding through tourniquet application and wound packing.  The target audience is usually high school aged and above.
  • Take 10 is a presentation and demonstration of hands only CPR for the general public.  The target audience is school aged students through adults.   All participants will return demonstrate what they have learned.

Other community presentations we provide include All Babies Cry (shaken baby syndrome) and ABC’s of Safe Sleeping (awareness for bed sharing suffocation and SIDS).  We also have education handouts regarding Heart attacks, Senior Falls and Stroke including a screening tool.

These programs can positively impact students, faculty, parents, grandparent and other members of your community.
